Acne scars occur as the body begins to repair damaged tissue. During an acne breakout the acne pore becomes inflamed and damages the wall of the pore. The skin's natural response is to repair the damage by producing collagen. Common scars include raised scarring, or pits and indentations. Acne scarring does not have to affect your confidence and most scarring can be easily treated.
Wrinkles and fine lines are caused by the breakdown of collagen and elastin. This can be as a result of ageing, sun damage and lifestyle factors. As the skin begins to lose its strength and elasticity visible fine lines may appear. More pronounced wrinkles occur as the fat in the deeper layers of the dermis decreases.
Freckles and brown spots are formed by an overproduction of melanin causing darkening of the skin. Exposure to the sun and ultraviolet rays stimulates the production of melanin and the result is an increase in freckles and brown spots. Unlike sunspots freckles appear in childhood and may fade as you age. Brown spots, sometimes known as sun spots or liver spots appear as you age.
Jowls and sagging skin are a direct result of losing volume in the face. This can be through the natural ageing process or through extreme weight loss. As the fat pads decrease in the cheeks and the bony structure of the jaw depletes, skin may begin to droop creating a jawline without definition, jowls, or lower face changes.
Regardless of the environmental temperature or exercise, sufferers of excessive sweating can sweat through clothing and find normal daily activities difficult to complete. Excessive sweating can affect armpits, hands, feet or the face usually bilaterally and can affect both men and women.
As we age we lose plumpness and our lips thin. There is a flattening of the natural “V” shape of the upper lip and more noticeable lines around the lips. Sun damage, genetic factors and lifestyle choices can also impact the appearance of lips over time. Some lips may be naturally thin, asymmetrical or low in volume, these can be effectively corrected with our dermal treatments.
Varicose veins and spider veins can be embarrassing and make us want to hide our legs out of sight. Although the cause of this issue is not completely understood, there appears to be links to genetics. Visible veins appear as the valves weaken and blood flows backwards through the vein. The vein bulges under the extra pressure and shows through the skin.
Damage from the sun and decreased collagen production create obvious changes to pigmentation and texture of the skin as we age. Also, the volume and plumpness of our faces decreases as the fat pads degenerate leaving hollows and sagging. Other signs of visual ageing include; fine lines and wrinkles, dull skin, uneven skin tone, dry skin, rough texture, blotchiness and age spots.
As we age the depletion of collagen and elastin happens all over the body including in the vagina and vulva. This can result in a looser vagina or saggy skin around the labia. Having laxity in the vagina and vulva can add to issues such as urinary incontinence, vaginitis and reduce sensations during sex.
