Freckles and Brown Spots
In most cases freckles and brown spots are harmless. They are formed by an overproduction of melanin causing darkening of the skin. Exposure to the sun and ultraviolet rays stimulates the production of melanin and the result is an increase in freckles and brown spots. Genetics plays a role in your predisposition to freckles as does your skin tone and those with lighter skin and darker or red hair are more likely to get freckles.
Unlike sunspots freckles appear in childhood and may fade as you age. Brown spots, sometimes known as sun spots or liver spots appear as you age. These do not fade or disappear and can range from yellow to brown in colour. We recommend daily application of sunscreen and a regular skin check on any areas of concern.
Treatment Options
